FAQ

Permanent cosmetic makeup is cosmetic tattooing. The specialized techniques used for permanent cosmetics are often referred to as “micropigmentation”. “Microshading/Combination Brow” and “Ombre/Powder Brow” is also a form of permanent makeup, it is a cosmetic tattoo just like the other techniques. The cosmetic implantation technique deposits colored pigment into the upper reticular layer of the dermis. Please make sure that you’re comfortable with the permanence of eyebrow tattooing. Like with any form of tattooing, pigment colors change in the skin over time and become duller. Cosmetic tattooing is somewhat less permanent hence it being referenced as “semi-permanent” than body tattooing but traces of pigment will more than likely always remain in the skin and need ongoing annual touch-up sessions.

The initial appointment includes consultation, brow mapping, customized color matching, the ombre’/powder or microshading/combination brow service and complimentary touch-up session to be performed no sooner than 6-12 weeks after the first appointment. The initial appointment lasts approximately 3.5 hours so please plan your time accordingly and book your complimentary touch-up appointment when booking the initial one.

Your brows pigment retention varies by person, lifestyle, aftercare and etc. However, your brows can last between 1-3 years. We recommend our clients return for a touch-up session every 12-24 months since last service date.

While an individual’s threshold for pain will vary from person to person. Typically, most client’s experience minimal discomfort. Here are a few ways we can minimize your discomfort.

  • A topical anesthetic is used during all procedures
  • Avoid caffeine & alcohol the day of your appointment
  • Avoid booking your appointment during your menstrual cycle

On average, it takes around 28 days for our skin to heal after any trauma but it could be longer for some clients. That’s why touch-ups are scheduled no earlier than 6 weeks after the first session to make sure the skin is completely healed.

This is what you might expect during those days:

DAY 1-2

What you see is about 20-40% darker, bolder and more solid than what your healed result will present. Under the pigment, the skin is red and pigment has been deposited into the layer of skin containing dead skin cells; combined giving the appearance of darker color. There may be minimal swelling but because typically the eyebrow area does not retain much fluid, the swelling will be limited. The top layers of skin will begin to shed on about day 3-5, and you will see a loss of color. This is normal, and the pigment that was deposited superficially will come off with the skin it is embedded within. DO NOT HELP IT! Let it peel on its own. To pull the skin off, you will remove ‘plugs’ of dermal pigments as it has not detached itself completely at this point.

DAY 3

Your eyebrows may begin to itch and the pigment may appear somewhat raised. Don’t scratch them.

DAY 4-6

The skin is now in the process of rapid exfoliation and if left alone, will shed evenly.   The color under the exfoliating skin will continue to appear light until the epidermis takes on its more transparent characteristics.

DAY 28+

Now is the time to evaluate your brows as you have had a full cycle of cellular regeneration in which the tattoo has now become part of the dermis.

* Every individual is different and this approximate timeline is just that, an approximate and can vary from person to person

Here at Prime Lash & Brow Boutique our method of hair removal is waxing. Even with the rise of threading waxing is the most common form of hair removal among wax professionals. Wax at a proper tempature is applied to the area to be waxed in the direction of the hair growth. There are two types of wax: hard wax and soft wax. Hard wax is better suited for sensitive skin and is often used on the face, underarm. Soft wax typically used for the brows, legs, chest and back. Waxing reduces hair growth when done regularly. With waxing the hair is removed from the root, over time it can grow back softer and finer.

Please arrive to your appointment without any traces of makeup and inform your technician if you have any contraindications for waxing procedure. Hair should be at least ¼-inch to ½-inch long (a grain of rice) for waxing to most effective.

We leave a topical anesthetic on the eyebrow area for 20 minutes before we begin the process, so this leaves most clients totally numb during the procedure.
In summary, microshading is intended to be a painless experience, certainly less painful than traditional tattooing on account of the numbing cream. Let the numbing cream take effect, and relax!
